John passed away on March 12, 2008 from prostate cancer. John was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007, but it already had metastasized and reached Stage 4.
Born on August 16, 1945 in Cheverly, Maryland, John was the son of the late John and Margaret (Deneane) Foret of Takoma Park, Maryland. John is survived by his wife Mary of 38 years, his three sons Paul of Huntersville, North Carolina, Philip of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and Stephen of Harlerysville, Pennsylvania, his grandchildren Hannah, Miles, and Isabelle of Hunterstown, North Carolina, Gabriella and Amelia of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and his sister Margaret (Foret) Odom of Owings Mills, Maryland.
John graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI)
in 1967 with a degree in chemistry and later earned a
Masters Degree in Management of Technology from the
American University, Washington, D.C. Upon graduating from
VMI, John served with honors in the United States Army, as
well as the United States Army Reserves for 30 years,
retiring from military service as a Colonel. In addition to
his military service, John worked for the Department of
Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration in
various managerial and enforcement capacities for 37 years.
After 9/11, and building upon his years of experience in
the military and civil service, John served as a Senior
Special Assistant for Security for the Department of
Homeland Security.
