Santa Barbara, CA 93105

Tickets are $8 for museum members and students (with ID), and $10 for the general public. Advance tickets are not available and there are no reservations for this event. Tickets may be purchased as early as 7 pm on the evening of the lecture.

Kennicutt earned his Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Washington and worked at the Hale Observatory - now called the Carnegie Observatories - and at Caltech as a Carnegie Fellow. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 research articles and books, mainly on astrophysics.

Dinner @ Cat and Fiddle, Sunday 23rd May, 2010. 6.30pm.

Please join us for Dinner, Drinks and even Jazz at the Cat and Fiddle on Sunset Blvd, Sunday 23rd, 6.30pm.

The Cat and Fiddle has Jazz on Sunday nights 7-11pm (thanks Chacko for the tip!), but doesn't reserve seats for their outside patio. So I'll book a couple of tables for inside, and we'll see on the day if we can get tables outside. If not then we can have dinner inside and then hang outside with drinks afterwards to listen to some of the Jazz.

The Cat and Fiddle. 6530 Sunset Blvd. 90028. http://www.thecatandfiddle.com
Please RSVP so I can book numbers for dinner.

I hope you are all well and look forward to seeing you soon!

Hi Cambridge Alumni,
It was great to see so many of you last night at the Consulate General residence celebrating our 800 years.  Thank you for making it such a special evening.

Jennifer Piscopo is organizing a series of Gates Scholar alumni association activities here in LA this weekend, and there are still a few places left for lunch on this coming Saturday if any Cambridge Alumni would like to come.  It's a free lunch (really!), and the Consul General will be there too, along with a speaker from RAND corporation.

If you would like to attend the lunch, and/or any other of the activities (see below), please email Jennifer as soon as possible, since the event is just a few days away.

Revolution Summer Solstice Party June 20th 2009

Just a reminder of our upcoming event - I hope you can make it. Come and meet your other Cambridge Alumni and Friends here in LA. We've moved on a couple of hundred years from the last 'Renaissance' Spring Equinox event, and our theme for this Summer is 'Revolution' - the years 1650-1850 (approximately). Come join us - and if you like in optional fancy dress of that time. But whether you choose to dress up or not, please come and be part of this special celebration. I would like to take this moment to thank the many people who are kindly contributing to this event including:

- Glenn Shadrake - the host - thank you again for hosting!

- Tom Gramlich & his group who will play 70's and 80's classics as well as jazz
- Elizaveta who will performing her lovely songs with piano; she'll just be back from her UK tour
- Susan Mermell's group of six singers

Both patio decks will be available for dancing so bring your dancing shoes!

Tips for the musicians will be greatly appreciated, and bigger tips for the 800 year anniversary fund welcome! :)

Your kindness may also be rewarded with one of our specially donated prizes for the evening:

- Joanna Sun has extremely graciously donated her premium July 4th soccer tickets where the LA Galaxy play the New England '
Revolution' ! How cool is that!?
These are extremely nice tickets ($85) and will be awarded as first prize for best costume.

- We also have two special edition light blue Cambridge University logo environmentally friendly bags for you to look extremely cool in around LA when you go shopping - for 2nd and 3rd prizes; kindly given to us from the folks at Cambridge in America (thanks Brandon, Kathy - you may have more requests for these after this party!)

As mentioned before, please no pointy stilettos since the house has a bamboo 'hardwood' floor which wasn't designed for such fashionable indentation! Merci.

Bring a bottle or a dish.

Date: June 20th.

Location: Glenn Shadrake’s home:
522 Grand Blvd, Venice, 90291.
There is usually adequate parking on the street or side streets.

Time: 6pm-11pm. As always, friends and family most welcome.

OK - thats it! Please RSVP! Thanks to the folks who have already RSVP'd.
