Robert C. Kennicutt Jr. is the Plumian Professor of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy, and director of the University of Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy. Previously, he was a professor of astronomy at the University of Arizona's Steward Observatory (1988-2005) and a professor at the University of Minnesota's Department of Astronomy (1980-88). Kennicutt earned his Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Washington and worked at the Hale Observatory - now called the Carnegie Observatories - and at Caltech as a Carnegie Fellow. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 research articles and books, mainly on astrophysics.
The lecture is part of an annual series on astrophysics - the Las Cumbres Observatory Lectures - presented jointly by the Department of Physics at UC Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (SBMNH) and the UC Santa Barbara-affiliated Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGT).
We hope you will be able to attend!
Best wishes,

Dinner @ Cat and Fiddle, Sunday 23rd May, 2010. 6.30pm.
The Cat and Fiddle has Jazz on Sunday nights 7-11pm (thanks Chacko for the tip!), but doesn't reserve seats for their outside patio. So I'll book a couple of tables for inside, and we'll see on the day if we can get tables outside. If not then we can have dinner inside and then hang outside with drinks afterwards to listen to some of the Jazz.
The Cat and Fiddle. 6530 Sunset Blvd. 90028. http://www.thecatandfiddle.com
Please RSVP so I can book numbers for dinner.
I hope you are all well and look forward to seeing you soon!
Prem
